A Word for You
This page is for you if you are still in the middle of the hurt. Not necessarily grieving a loss — but hurting. Maybe someone said something that cut deep and you have not been able to shake it. Maybe you are living with ongoing rejection, betrayal, criticism, or conflict that has worn you down. Maybe you are lonely in a room full of people, or wounded in ways that are invisible to everyone around you.
God sees the wounds others cannot see. He does not dismiss what you are carrying because it does not have a name or a category. Your heart hurts — and that is enough for Him to draw near. He is not waiting for you to have the right words or the right faith level. He is already close.
These scriptures speak to every kind of hurt — the hurt that comes from what others have done, the hurt that comes from circumstances beyond your control, and the quiet ache that lives in the places no one else can reach. Bring all of it. He has something to say to every part of it.
Foundation Scripture
“Cast all your care upon Him, because He cares for you.”
— 1 Peter 5:7
Every hurt. Every wound. Every thing weighing on your heart right now — He invites you to cast it onto Him. Not because He has to carry it. Because He wants to. He cares for you specifically, personally, right now.
God’s Comfort When You Are Hurting
Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
His Promise
He does not keep a comfortable distance from hurting people. He draws near. The very place you are in right now — hurting, crushed — is where He moves toward, not away from.
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
His Promise
He does not simply observe your hurt from a distance. He strengthens, helps, upholds. Three active promises — three ways He is already moving toward you in this moment.
Deuteronomy 31:8
“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
His Promise
He goes before you into tomorrow — into the next conversation, the next day of carrying this, the next thing that requires courage. He is already there. And He will not leave.
John 14:18
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”
His Promise
Orphaned is exactly how hurt can make you feel — alone, uncared for, abandoned. Jesus speaks directly to that feeling: I will come to you. He does not leave those who are hurting to fend for themselves.
Isaiah 66:13
“As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you.”
His Promise
God chose the most tender human image available to describe His comfort. Not a distant, formal comfort — a mother’s comfort. Attentive, gentle, unhurried, and completely focused on you.
When Others Have Hurt You
Romans 12:19
“Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.”
His Promise
You do not have to carry the weight of justice. God takes it seriously — far more seriously than you can. Releasing it to Him is not weakness. It is the most powerful thing you can do with a wound someone else caused.
Ephesians 4:31–32
“Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”
His Promise
Bitterness held too long begins to wound the one who holds it. God’s invitation to forgiveness is not for the benefit of the person who hurt you — it is for your freedom. Forgiveness releases you, not them.
Colossians 3:13
“Bear with one another and forgive one another; if anyone has a complaint against another, even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”
His Promise
Forgiving the way Christ forgave — before you deserved it, without conditions, completely — is only possible with His help. You do not have to manufacture it. Ask Him to give you the grace to forgive what you cannot forgive on your own.
Proverbs 15:1
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
His Promise
In relationships where the hurt is ongoing — where conflict keeps coming — God offers a practical key. Gentleness is not passivity. It is power under control, and it has the ability to turn a situation that words alone cannot.
Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
His Promise
When the hurt makes no sense — when you cannot understand why it happened or what to do next — trust is the anchor. His understanding covers what yours cannot reach. He will direct what you cannot figure out.
Perfect Peace — Available Now
“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
— Isaiah 26:3
God’s Peace in the Middle of the Hurt
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled, and do not be afraid.”
His Promise
The peace Jesus gives does not require your circumstances to change first. It is available now — in the middle of the hurt, not just after it passes. His peace is not the world’s peace. It does not depend on resolution.
Philippians 4:6–7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
His Promise
This peace surpasses understanding — which means it does not have to make sense to work. Bring the hurt to God with thanksgiving, and His peace stands guard over the very places the hurt has tried to occupy.
Colossians 3:15
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
His Promise
Peace is not just available — it is meant to rule. To govern. To be the deciding voice in your heart when hurt and fear are both demanding to be heard. Invite His peace to take that place today.
Psalm 29:11
“The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace.”
His Promise
Peace is a blessing He gives — not something you manufacture through discipline or positive thinking. Ask Him for it. He gives strength and peace to His people as gifts, not as rewards for having it together.
Strength for Today
Psalm 46:1
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
His Promise
Very present — not approaching, not coming eventually. Present right now, in this trouble, in this hurt. He is your refuge today, not just your future hope.
Isaiah 40:29–31
“He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength… those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles.”
His Promise
He gives power specifically to the weak — not the strong, not the already-recovered. The exhaustion of ongoing hurt qualifies you for exactly what He promises here. New strength. His strength, transferred to you.
Joshua 1:9
“Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
His Promise
The courage asked for here is backed by a presence that never leaves. Wherever you go — into the next hard conversation, the next day of this, the next moment that requires you to stand — He is already there with you.
Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
His Promise
All things — including getting through this day, this season, this ongoing hurt. The strength is not yours to find. It comes through Christ, and He gives it to those who ask.
Psalm 73:26
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
His Promise
When you have nothing left — when the hurt has drained you and you are simply out of strength — He becomes the strength itself. Not a supplement. The source. And He is your portion forever, not just for this season.
Hope for Tomorrow
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
His Promise
Today’s hurt is not the final chapter. God has already declared a future over your life — one with hope in it, one He has planned. What is hurting you right now does not have the authority to rewrite that.
Romans 15:13
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
His Promise
Overflowing hope — not just coping, not just surviving — is what the Holy Spirit makes available as you trust Him. He is the God of hope, which means hope is always present wherever He is.
Lamentations 3:22–23
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, though His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
His Promise
Every morning is a fresh supply of His mercy — not leftover from yesterday, not rationed. New. For as many mornings as this season requires, His compassions will be waiting.
Hebrews 10:23
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
His Promise
Hold fast — not because the hurt is not real, but because He who promised is faithful. Your grip on hope does not have to be perfect. His faithfulness is what makes it hold.
Psalm 30:5
“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”
His Promise
The night of hurt has a morning. Joy is on its way — not as a vague comfort, but as a promise from the God who controls the dawn. This night is not permanent. Morning is coming.
God’s Love — Unshaken and Unfailing
Romans 8:38–39
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
His Promise
Nothing. The list Paul gives is exhaustive by design — leaving no category out. Whatever has hurt you, whatever is hurting you now, cannot separate you from this love. It is the one constant when everything else is painful.
Zephaniah 3:17
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
His Promise
He is not disappointed in you for hurting. He is not frustrated with your pain. He is rejoicing over you with singing — right now, in this state, in this season. Let that truth reach the places the hurt has wounded most deeply.
Isaiah 54:10
“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet My unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor My covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
His Promise
His love for you is more stable than mountains. The most permanent-looking things can shift — but His love will not be shaken. His covenant of peace will not be removed. These are the things that hold when everything hurts.
Psalm 136:1
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His steadfast love endures forever.”
His Promise
Forever means it endures through this. Through the hurt, through the healing, through every day between here and eternity. His steadfast love is not seasonal. It does not depend on your circumstances or your feelings.
Hebrews 13:5
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
His Promise
Never — in the hurt, in the healing, in the waiting for the hurt to lift. He is the presence that does not leave. Whatever has been taken from you, whatever has wounded you, this cannot be taken: He stays.
Speak These Over Your Heart Today
When hurt is loud, speak louder. These declarations are grounded in His Word — speak them aloud as an act of faith.
God is my refuge and strength.
The Lord is near to me today.
His peace guards my heart and mind.
My hope is secure in Him.
God will strengthen me for whatever I face.
I place every hurt into His loving hands.
His love for me will never fail.
God’s Game Plan — When Your Heart Is Hurting
-
Bring the Hurt to Him — Name It
Do not vague it up before God. Tell Him specifically what hurts and why. He already knows, but the act of naming it before Him is the beginning of releasing it. He can handle the full weight of what you are carrying. (1 Peter 5:7, Psalm 55:22)
-
Release What Someone Else Did
If another person caused the hurt, resist the pull toward bitterness. It will not protect you — it will wound you further. Release their offense to God and ask Him to give you the grace to forgive what you cannot forgive on your own. He will. (Romans 12:19, Ephesians 4:31–32)
-
Keep Your Mind Stayed on Him
Isaiah 26:3 promises perfect peace to the mind that is stayed on God. When the hurt pulls your thoughts toward the wound, gently redirect them toward His Word, His character, and His promises. This is not denial — it is the discipline that creates space for peace. (Isaiah 26:3, Colossians 3:15)
-
Speak the Declarations Aloud
Use the declarations on this page. When hurt speaks loudly, speak back louder with God’s truth. Spoken faith is one of the most powerful tools available to a hurting heart. The Word of God in your mouth carries authority over the pain in your heart. (Psalm 46:1, Psalm 73:26)
-
Trust the Morning
Weeping endures for a night. Hurt has a season — but it is not an unlimited one. Trust the God who controls the morning. Hold on. His mercies are new every day, and the joy He promises is on its way — even when you cannot yet see it. (Psalm 30:5, Lamentations 3:22–23)
A Prayer for You
Father, I come to You with a heart that is hurting. I do not have to explain it all perfectly — You already see it, every wound, every part of it that I cannot even put into words. And Your Word says You are near to the brokenhearted — which means You are near to me right now.
I cast every hurt onto You today. The things that were said. The things that were done. The ongoing pain that I have been carrying and do not know how to put down. I give it to You — not because I have the strength to let go easily, but because You said You care for me, and I believe You.
Where someone has wounded me, give me the grace to forgive — not from my own strength, but through Yours. Guard my heart from bitterness. Let Your peace rule in me, Your love anchor me, and Your strength carry me through every day of this season.
Remind me today that You are not finished with me. That the hurt I am feeling is not the end of my story. That joy is coming — that Your mercies are new every morning and that Your love for me will never fail. Keep my mind stayed on You. I trust You with all of this.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
A Good Word for You
When your heart is hurting, it can be difficult to see beyond today’s pain. Yet throughout Scripture we see that God draws especially near to those who are hurting. He does not dismiss your tears or overlook the wounds others cannot see. He walks beside you, strengthens you day by day, and gently ministers to the deepest places of your heart.
Though the hurt may feel overwhelming today, God’s love remains constant, His presence is faithful, and His promises are sure. Hold on to Him. The One who comforts the hurting and heals the brokenhearted will continue His work in your life, giving you strength for today, peace for each step, and hope for tomorrow.
