A Word for You
Waiting can be one of the most difficult seasons of the Christian life. You may be praying for healing, believing for financial provision, waiting for a prodigal child to come home, asking God to restore a relationship, or standing in faith for an answer that has not yet come.
Some mornings you wake up facing the very same challenge you prayed about yesterday. It can be discouraging when circumstances appear unchanged — and the temptation is to believe that God has forgotten you or that your prayers are accomplishing nothing.
But God’s Word tells us something very different. Waiting is not a sign that God is absent. Waiting is often the place where God strengthens our faith, shapes our character, teaches us to depend upon Him, and prepares us for what He has already planned. While we wait, God calls us to remain faithful, to continue trusting Him, and to anchor our lives in His promises rather than our circumstances.
Foundation Scripture — Psalm 27:13–14
“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!”
— Psalm 27:13–14
David says I would have lost heart — meaning he understood discouragement intimately. Then he tells us what kept him going: he believed. Not that circumstances had changed. That he would see God’s goodness. That belief was the anchor that held everything else.
Those Who Waited — and What God Was Doing
Abraham
Waited decades for God’s promised son. God was building a faith that could trust an impossible promise — and through that faith, a nation would come.
Joseph
Waited through betrayal, slavery, and false imprisonment. Every injustice was positioning him for a purpose only that path could have reached.
David
Waited years to become the king he had already been anointed to be. The shepherd’s field and the caves were not detours — they were the formation of a king after God’s own heart.
Moses
Waited forty years in the desert before God called him to lead Israel. The wilderness did not disqualify him. It prepared him for everything that followed.
Their waiting was not wasted. God was preparing them while He was preparing His answer. The same is true for you.
God Is Working While You Wait
Silence Is Not Absence
One of the most disorienting experiences in the life of faith is the season when you have prayed, you are believing, and nothing appears to be changing. The temptation in that silence is to conclude that God is not working — that the prayer is not reaching Him, that something is wrong with your faith, or that He has simply moved on.
Scripture offers a completely different interpretation of that silence. God’s timing is not our timing. His ways are not our ways. And the very season that looks from the outside like nothing is happening is often the season when He is doing the most significant work — in you, in the people you are praying for, and in circumstances you cannot yet see.
Isaiah 40:31
“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
His PromiseWaiting is not passive — it is the active posture that releases His renewal into you. The person who waits on the Lord does not deplete further. They are renewed. Mounting up, running, walking without fainting — these are not the outcomes of people who gave up. They are the outcomes of people who waited.
Lamentations 3:25–26
“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”
His PromiseThe Lord is good to those who wait — the waiting itself positions you to receive His goodness. Hope and wait quietly. The quietness is not resignation — it is the settled trust that what He has promised, He will do. In His time and in His way.
Habakkuk 2:3
“Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come. It will not tarry.”
His PromiseIt will surely come. One of Dick Mills’ most-returned-to themes — God’s promises have God’s timing, and that timing is always right. Though it tarries in your perception, it will not tarry in His. Wait for it. It is coming.
Ecclesiastes 3:11
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
His PromiseBeautiful in its time — not beautiful in your time or my time, but in His. The thing that feels delayed, overdue, or long past its moment is being made beautiful in a timing that God alone can see from beginning to end. Trust the One who sees what you cannot.
Keep Trusting God
Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
His PromiseLean not on your own understanding — especially your understanding of how long this is taking and why it is taking this long. His ways exceed your understanding by design. Trust His understanding of the timing rather than defaulting to your own. He will direct your path.
Psalm 37:5
“Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”
His PromiseHe shall bring it to pass — the fulfillment is His responsibility. Your responsibility is the committing and the trusting. When you carry the burden of making it happen, you exhaust yourself trying to do what belongs to Him. Commit. Trust. He brings it to pass.
Hebrews 10:23
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
His PromiseHold fast — not let go when the waiting becomes long, not loosen your grip when discouragement arrives. Hold fast without wavering. The reason given is not that the answer is coming soon. It is that He who promised is faithful. His character is the anchor, not the timeline.
Numbers 23:19
“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”
His PromiseHas He said, and will He not do it? The rhetorical answer is clear — He will. God’s promises are not contingent on circumstances or timing that we can see. They are backed by His character, which does not lie, does not change, and does not fail to make good on what it has declared.
God’s Word Is Your Anchor

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”
— Hebrews 6:19
An anchor is not made for sunny days. It is made for storms. It does not remove the storm — it keeps the ship from drifting while the storm continues. God’s Word is that anchor. It holds you steady when emotions rise, when circumstances remain unchanged, and when questions try to shake your confidence. Hold tightly to His promises. They are stronger than the storm.
Be Strong While You Wait
Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
His PromiseBe strong and courageous — not because the circumstances have resolved but because the Lord your God is with you. The strength commanded here is not manufactured through determination. It is drawn from the presence of the God who goes with you into every place the waiting has taken you.
Psalm 31:24
“Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.”
His PromiseHe shall strengthen your heart — the strengthening comes to the one who chooses courage while waiting. Good courage is a decision made before the strength arrives. And when you make it, He strengthens. The sequence matters: courage chosen, strength given.
Ephesians 6:10
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
His PromiseIn the Lord — not in your own assessment of how long this has taken or your own reading of whether it is still coming. Strong in the Lord, in the power of His might. The source of strength in a long waiting season is not self-discipline. It is His might, accessed through trust.
Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
His PromiseIncluding waiting. Including another day of the same prayer. Including holding fast when giving up would be easier. Through Christ who strengthens — the strength is His supply flowing to you, sufficient for everything He has asked of you in this season.
Stay Faithful While You Wait
The Principle of the Waiting Season
“Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
— Galatians 6:9
In due season — not our season, not the season we planned, but God’s. The reaping comes to those who do not lose heart in the waiting. Keep doing good. Keep sowing faithfully. The harvest is coming.
Luke 16:10
“He who is faithful in what is least is also faithful in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is also unjust in much.”
His PromiseFaithfulness in the small and ordinary things of the waiting season is what God sees and builds upon. The breakthrough you are waiting for is often prepared by the faithfulness you demonstrate before it arrives. Stay faithful in the least. God notices what happens in the waiting.
Colossians 3:23
“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”
His PromiseAs to the Lord — not as to the circumstances that have not changed, not as to the answer that has not arrived. Do what is in front of you heartily, as an act of worship to the God you are waiting on. That posture transforms the waiting from endurance into faithfulness.
Matthew 25:21
“Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!”
His PromiseWell done, faithful servant — not well done, successful servant. Not well done, quickly answered servant. Faithfulness matters while waiting. The commendation God gives is not for the size of what you accomplished but for the consistency with which you showed up in the waiting.
God’s Protocol — What Do I Do While I’m Waiting?
Waiting is not sitting still. It is the active, faithful pursuit of what God has already asked you to do — while trusting Him completely with what only He can bring.
Keep Trusting God’s PromisesDon’t evaluate God’s faithfulness by today’s circumstances. Evaluate today’s circumstances by God’s promises. The circumstances are temporary. The promises are not. Return to what He has said every time discouragement tries to rewrite the story.
Continue Doing Today’s ResponsibilitiesWaiting is not sitting still. Keep working. Keep serving. Keep loving. Keep obeying what He has already asked of you. David tended sheep faithfully right up until the moment he stood before Goliath. Faithfulness in the waiting is preparation for what comes after it.
Stay Anchored in God’s WordAn anchor is not made for sunny days — it is made for storms. God’s Word is the anchor that keeps you from drifting when the waiting feels long and the questions grow loud. Hold fast to His promises. They are stronger than the storm you are navigating.
Guard Your ThoughtsDon’t allow discouragement to write the story of your waiting season. Let God’s Word write it instead. When the thought arrives that nothing is changing, counter it with what Scripture says God is doing — renewing your strength, directing your path, working all things together for good.
Continue PrayingPrayer is not something you do until you grow tired. It is where you receive strength for another day. Keep bringing the situation before God — specifically, honestly, and with thanksgiving. The same prayer prayed faithfully over time is not wasted prayer. It is building faith.
Thank God Before You See the AnswerFaith thanks God while still waiting. When you thank God for what He is doing before you can see it, you are declaring that His faithfulness is greater than your circumstances. That thanksgiving is not denial — it is the language of trust.
Refuse to Lose HeartDavid said I would have lost heart — don’t. The instruction is specific: keep believing, keep holding fast, keep your eyes on the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Not in eternity only — in this life, in this situation, in your story. He is good and He will show it.
Leave God’s Timing to GodYou are responsible for faithfulness. God is responsible for fulfillment. When you try to carry the responsibility of the timing, you add an unbearable weight to the waiting. Release it. His timing is perfect — seen from the perspective that includes beginning and end, which is His perspective, not yours.
Speak God’s Word Today
When the waiting feels long, speak these aloud. They redirect your heart from what you cannot yet see to the God who is already at work.
God is working while I am waiting — even when I cannot yet see it.
The Lord strengthens my heart every day I choose to trust Him.
I remain faithful where God has placed me in this season.
I am anchored in God’s promises, not my circumstances.
I trust God’s timing completely.
I hold fast to His Word without wavering.
I will not lose heart — I will see the goodness of the Lord.
God is faithful to every promise He has made.
I believe I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
A Prayer for You
Father, I come to You today from the middle of a waiting season — carrying the same prayer I have brought before, facing the same circumstances that have not yet changed, looking for evidence that You are moving and not always finding what I hoped to see.
I choose today to believe what Your Word says rather than what my circumstances suggest. I choose to believe that You are working even when I cannot see it — that You are preparing, positioning, and moving in ways that my limited perspective cannot yet perceive. I choose to hold fast to Your promises rather than let go of them in discouragement.
Strengthen my heart today. Give me the courage to keep trusting, keep praying, keep doing what You have asked me to do while I wait. Guard my thoughts against the voice that says nothing is happening. And let me hear, in the quiet, Your voice saying: I am faithful. I have not forgotten. It is coming.
Help me to be found faithful when the waiting ends — to have used this season to grow, not to shrink. And give me the settled confidence that the same God who asked me to wait is the same God who promises I will see His goodness in the land of the living.

A Good Word for You
Waiting on God is rarely easy. There are days when it seems as though nothing is changing and every prayer feels unanswered. Yet some of the greatest men and women in Scripture experienced long seasons of waiting. Abraham. Joseph. David. Moses. Their waiting was not wasted. God was preparing them while He was preparing His answer.
Perhaps you are waiting today for healing, provision, restoration, direction, or a breakthrough that has not yet come. Don’t mistake God’s silence for His absence. The Lord is still working, even when you cannot yet see what He is doing. While you wait, continue doing what God has already asked you to do. Remain faithful in today’s responsibilities. Keep seeking Him in prayer. Fill your heart with His Word. Guard your thoughts against discouragement. Thank Him for His faithfulness before the answer arrives.
The God who asked you to wait is the same God who promised never to leave you. He is strengthening your heart, directing your steps, and working behind the scenes in ways you cannot yet see. Don’t lose heart. Keep trusting. Keep obeying. Keep believing. In God’s perfect time, you will discover that He was faithfully working all along.
Waiting Is Not Wasting
Waiting on God is never wasted time. While you are waiting for God to work around you, He is also working within you. He is strengthening your faith, teaching you to trust His promises, refining your character, and preparing you for what lies ahead. Don’t measure the value of your waiting by how quickly circumstances change. Measure it by how faithfully God is shaping your heart. Every day spent trusting Him is a day well spent — because God never wastes the waiting season.
