God Is Drawing You Toward Himself
He has already done everything He will ever do. The debt is paid. The door is open. The only thing left is your choice to come close.
There is something you need to know before we go any further. Whatever brought you to this page — whatever you are carrying, whatever you have done or left undone, however far you feel from God right now — He is not waiting for you to get it together before He receives you. He has already moved toward you. He moved all the way to a cross. And He is still moving.
God has done everything He will ever do for your salvation, your wholeness, your belonging to Him. It is finished — those were not just the last words of a dying man. They were a declaration: the work is complete. The debt is paid. The separation between you and God has been dealt with, fully and finally, in Jesus Christ.
What remains — the only thing that remains — is your choice. Will you turn toward Him? Will you come close? Because everything changes in His presence. Clarity comes there. Purpose is found there. The life you were made for is waiting in the garden — and the gate is open.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”John 3:16
Not whoever earns it. Not whoever is good enough. Whoever believes. The offer is that wide. It is for you.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”Matthew 11:28
This is an open invitation with no preconditions. Weary is enough. Burdened is enough. Come.
Far From Home
Most people who feel far from God did not make one dramatic choice to leave. They drifted. Life got loud. Circumstances got hard. Disappointment moved in. One conversation — with doubt, with grief, with the wrong voice — introduced a little distance, and then a little more, until they looked up and didn’t recognize where they were.
Living at a distance from God has a particular feeling: a low-grade restlessness that nothing seems to resolve. A searching quality — for meaning, for peace, for something that actually satisfies. Relationships, success, escapes of various kinds — they offer relief but not rest. Because the thing you were made for is not out there. It is in His presence. And you have been looking everywhere but there.
This is not a judgment. It is a description. And it points in only one direction: toward Him.
From the Garden to the Cross — He Has Always Been Coming Toward You
The story begins in a garden. God was there, walking with His people in the cool of the day — close, present, conversational. It was the life He designed: His presence, His provision, His purpose, all given freely. Everything they needed was already there.
One conversation changed the direction. Not God’s direction — theirs. They moved away. And when they hid, God called out: “Where are you?” Not because He didn’t know. Because He wanted them to know He was still there. Still looking. Still coming toward them.
The whole of Scripture is that pursuit. God moving toward the people He made — through the law, through the prophets, through promise after promise — until finally He came Himself. Not calling from a distance this time. Coming all the way. Taking on flesh, walking among us, going to a cross. The ultimate “Where are you?” — answered not with a question but with a sacrifice.
When Jesus said “It is finished,” He meant it. The separation is over. The debt is paid. There is nothing left to do to earn your way back to the garden. The gate is not locked. The only question now is whether you will walk through it. Whether you will choose to come close. Whether you will turn toward the One who has been turning toward you your entire life.
Believe what He has already done
The starting point is not a feeling or a resolution to do better. It is a decision about what is true. Jesus went to the cross. He rose from the dead. He paid the debt that separated you from God. Believe it. That belief is the door.
Say it out loud
Romans 10:9 says that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. There is something important about saying it — not to earn it, but to receive it. Tell God: I believe. I’m turning toward You. I want what You have already given.
Come to Him as you are — not as you wish you were
You do not have to clean yourself up before you draw near. That is exactly what grace means: He receives you now, in the condition you are actually in. Come in the grief, the failure, the confusion, the distance. Come as you are.
Stay close — build the habit of His presence
Drawing near is not a one-time event. It is a direction, a daily turning toward Him. His Word. Prayer — not a performance, but a conversation. Being with His people. These are not obligations. They are the way the garden works: you stay close by staying close.
Let everything else be reoriented from there
When you are in His presence, clarity comes. Purpose becomes visible. The things that seemed overwhelming from a distance look different from close up. You don’t need all the answers before you come. You need to come. The answers tend to follow.
- God has done everything He will ever do. The debt is paid and the door is open.
- I am turning toward Him — not because I have it together, but because He has already come toward me.
- His love moved first. It moved all the way to a cross.
- I come as I am. He receives me as I am.
- Everything changes in His presence. That is where I am choosing to live.
- I was made for closeness with God, and I am coming home to it.
- It is finished. I receive what Jesus has already given.
Lord, I am turning toward You. That is the whole prayer — I am turning around, and I am coming toward You.
I believe what You have done. I believe the cross was real, that the debt was paid, that the separation is finished. I believe You rose from the dead and that You are alive right now, and that You have been at the door of my life knocking. I am opening the door.
I come as I am. I don’t have this figured out. I have questions and failures and distance I have let grow without knowing how to close it. I bring all of that, and I lay it at Your feet — because You already carried it to a cross, and I don’t have to carry it anymore.
Be near to me. Make Your presence real. Give me clarity, purpose, the full life You said You came to bring. I want to live close. I want to stay in the garden. Teach me how.
Thank You for not waiting for me to be ready. Thank You for coming all the way.
God has not been waiting for you to earn your way back to Him. He sent His Son so you wouldn’t have to. Every step of the distance between you and God has already been dealt with — on a cross, outside Jerusalem, two thousand years ago. It is finished.
What He is offering you is not a religion or a set of requirements. It is a relationship — the same one that walked in the garden in the cool of the day, the same one that called out “Where are you?” and has been calling ever since. He is calling now.
Turn toward Him. Come close. Stay close. Everything you have been looking for — the rest, the clarity, the purpose, the belonging — is in His presence. It has been there the whole time. And the gate is open.
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”James 4:8 This is the movement that changes everything. One step toward Him. He meets you there.
